This is a portrait of another late dog of my family, Luna. She passed in early 2024, a year after Otis, who I also have a portrait of. She was a lovely little bean who was adopted when she was 3 and had been with us until she passed at nearly 12 from heart related issues. She was always selective of who she was cuddly with, but loved her people. She was always so cartoonishly skittish yet boisterous and social when she wanted to be, and I wanted to capture a similar angle of her as I did for Otis, being an extreme birds eye. With Luna, she always did this funny stretch pose that made her look hilarious, and I thought it was perfect for capturing her silly personality. This painting is 16 by 24 inches and done in acrylic. The progress shots are not the best photos, but they still give an idea of some of the process I take to paint. I love using a variety of color blocking to build up into a rich form. I finished this painting on Christmas eve of 2024, as a gift for my mom who loved her most. Rest in piece Luna!
