Wild Wonders

This piece is inspired off the wildlife that can be found in my hometown of Wilmington NC. It is watercolor and lined in a dip pen. The area in which I live is one of the few areas that can naturally grow venus flytraps, and also grows many other types of carnivorous plants as well. Originally, the piece was going to play host to a range of colors, but after doing a few washes of mostly cool tones, I realized how cohesive it looked this way. This analogous color pallet helps the eye focus on the lines and shapes that lay about the piece, and also gives an aged look. The addition of the more surreal elements also talks towards the almost mystical and dream life feel of being out in nature, which was always especially true while young, as always admiring how different even the smallest leaf was to each plant, and trying to see what other strange unknowns I could find. This overall was a very fun piece to work on, and I plan on making more in this vein to create a series that perhaps gets more and more strange with each piece. The size is 15 by 23 inches.
